for whom: Marco Tempest

where: TED.com

when: developed during the first half of 2012

what: the performance tells the story of Nikola Tesla using a set of techniques that can be described as dynamic projection mapping. While “traditional” projection mapping simply deforms the output of a projector to fit static, non-flat surfaces, we created a custom rig (camera + projector + software) that is able to adapt to a moving environment, tracking moving objects and even people’s face: this allowed us to bring a popup book to life, to interact with a little Tesla and to transform Marco in Tesla himself.

media: the video of the performance is available at the TED website and TEDblog dedicated a nice post to the behind the scenes documentary realized by Marco.
